Expect the experience of a professional salon setting with the comfort of being in a
private home when you visit Jenny Can Do Home Hairdressing.
Literally, a dream come true for Jenny Du, the proprietor, her first memory of wanting to
become a hairdresser was when she was in her early teens. She saw how hairdressers
changed not only the appearance of their clients, but how it put a smile on their face. She
enjoys making people happy, and her home salon allows her to do just that.
She possesses a special understanding towards those with special needs because she has a
brother with disabilities. This inspired her to begin a mobile hairdressing business in
August of 2008. During this time she gained experience working in aged care facilities,
group homes, and private residences. Clients boasted of having a great rapport with
Jenny, and they were left feeling very satisfied with her high standard of work.
Yet, Jenny still dreamed of having her own salon but felt the costs were too high, and she
didn’t want to end up working for the landlord. Her solution was to set up a salon at her
home in order to minimize costs and maximize the competitive edge. This also allowed
her to maintain a high standard of customer service and excellent value for money.
There are a number of hairdressers that operate from home, but most will just put a chair
in a spare room with a mirror and no basin except in the bathroom. Jenny knew she could
do better than that and was determined to set up the salon as professionally as any found
in a shopping centre.
This led her to meticulously modifying the flat in her backyard to comply with council
standards. Her time, patience and hard work have paid off. Ever since she opened her
doors in April 2010, customers have commented that her salon is even better than many
they’ve seen in shopping centres.
In order for her clients to feel they can maintain the salon look at home, Jenny also
maintains a stock of high quality hair care products. These include shampoos, styling
products, and treatments. She only supplies items she has tried on herself - great
professional products that don’t cost a fortune.
Jenny received her certificate in hairdressing from Meadowbank TAFE and has done
specialist training with one of the leaders in the industry, Sharon Blain.
In her quest to
maintain high standards, she is currently upgrading her formal qualifications at the
Australasian College on Broadway which will include make-up skills.
